Why does your son or daughter need a Guardian in the UK?
The UK Border Agency states that for child visa applicants, “all children studying in the UK must have suitable care arrangements in place for their travel, reception at port and living arrangements while here”. Furthermore, boarding schools require all international students to have a Guardian aged over 25 resident in the UK. Whilst the schools are responsible for your child’s welfare during the school term, there are many times either during the term (such a exeats and half terms), during the holidays or when your child is sick where the responsibility falls to the legal Guardian to take care for your child.
As guardians our responsibilities include:
- Personal visits to the students to provide emotional, educational and pastoral support.
- Co-ordinate all travel arrangements to and from school which can include greeting at the airport and personal care in checking in.
- Co-ordinating travel arrangements for visiting parents which includes accommodation, tours of schools and personal time with their children.
- Appointing a suitable host family. All host families are personally selected and fully approved, and will provide excellent support for your child during their stay.
- 24/7 Emergency contact for the children and parents whenever the need arise.
- Supervising all academic progress by taking a genuine interest in the students’ progress and attendance at teacher-parent; details of such evenings will be provided. A full written report is sent to the parents after each meeting.
- Supervising purchase of all uniforms and expenses and other school requirements.
- Assistance with visa applications.
- Assistance in opening UK bank accounts, mobile phone access and internet connectivity.
- Offering advice for further educational placements to Universities within the UK as many of our students choose to continue their studies at Britain’s top Universities.
- Arranging school meetings and interviews when necessary.
